HIGH-RISE
APARTMENT
180°
Gzira, Malta — Completed 2020 — 330 m²
Suspended above the city, this high-rise residence unfolds as a quiet observatory, a place where architecture meets the horizon. Encircled by 180 degrees of uninterrupted views, the apartment embraces the drama of its elevated context — most notably to the east, where dawn stretches across Valletta and Manoel Island.
A continuous ribbon of full-height, aluminium-glazed sliding doors blurs the threshold between inside and out, inviting light, air, and panorama into every moment of daily life. These openings lead to a deep, sheltered terrace — an outdoor room hovering above the urban fabric.
The plan is carved around the choreography of views. Spaces are aligned not just by function, but by perspective. The open-plan living, dining, and kitchen areas are loosely defined by monolithic, sculptural forms — each element distinct, yet silent in presence. Bedrooms retreat to either end of the apartment, offering sanctuary and privacy behind the veil of the landscape.
To arrive at the heart — the living room — one passes through a tunnel-like corridor, entirely wrapped in curved walnut timber. This passage compresses and then releases, a threshold of warmth and shadow that amplifies the drama of the view beyond.
Technology is seamlessly embedded. An intelligent home system orchestrates lighting, climate, sound, blinds, and insect screens — quietly responsive to mood and moment.
On the terrace, bespoke outdoor furniture continues the language of refinement and resilience. Made from interlocking glass fibre reinforced concrete panels, the pieces resist the high-altitude wind yet maintain a sculptural lightness. Cushions, fixed with handcrafted wooden buttons, echo the tactile care found throughout the interior.
