NORFOLK

In the heart of Sliema, a traditional Maltese townhouse is quietly reimagined.
The project renews its kitchen and dining spaces — the home’s social heart — through an approach that celebrates proportion, light, and material authenticity.

The design begins with revelation rather than reinvention.

Original limestone walls are exposed and restored, their soft texture forming a timeless backdrop.Above, the once-concealed xorok ceiling is uncovered, its stone slabs carrying the rhythm of Maltese craft and history.

Spatially, the plan is open yet intimate.
A softly curved arch defines the transition between kitchen and dining, framing the view and guiding light through the depth of the room.
Within this composition, a bespoke kitchen hood becomes the focal gesture — sculpted to appear as though it extends directly from the wall, merging architecture and function into one continuous form.

Cabinetry in warm oak introduces tactility and warmth, while a ceramic patterned floor in green and off-white brings a subtle vibrancy — a contemporary interpretation of traditional Maltese tiling.
Together, these elements establish a dialogue between craftsmanship and restraint, between memory and renewal.

Lighting is quietly layered: indirect illumination washes across stone and plaster, while pendant light softens the dining area with an evening glow.
As daylight shifts, textures deepen, and the room transforms with the rhythm of the day.

This is a project of measured simplicity — a restoration not of ornament but of atmosphere.
It allows the townhouse to breathe again, its historic character framed by a calm and contemporary sensibility.
